Learn to Facilitate and Play The Watershed Game
Extension faculty and staff are invited to a training focused on how to facilitate “The Watershed Game,” an educational tool that teaches the principles of watershed management in a cooperative setting.
Two separate trainings will be offered, one for each version of the game. The Classroom Version training is suitable for those who intend to use the game as part of a middle- or high-school curriculum. The Local Leader version will teach participants how to use the game to facilitate discussions on sensitive and complex issues within a watershed. Both versions encourage players to work collaboratively and gives opportunities to view issues from new perspectives.
The Local Leader Version training will be held on March 6, from 3:15 – 6:00 pm and will continue on March 7, from 8:15 – 11:45 am. The Classroom Version training will be held on March 7, from 3:15 – 6:00 pm. Both trainings will be held at The Edge, 1960 Kimball Avenue, Manhattan, KS.
The Watershed Game is an active, hands-on simulation that helps participants understand the relationships between land use, water quality, flood resilience, and their community. Working in teams, participants apply tools (practices, plans, and policies) to decrease water pollution and increase flood resilience while balancing financial resources.
These trainings are free, and continuing education hours are available. Participants must register to attend. Registration links and agenda information are available on the Kansas Water Institute website.
