New Distance-based Certificate Helps Extension Professionals Expand Their Expertise in Agricultural Safety and Health

Submitted by Mitch Ricketts

The College of Agriculture is excited to announce four new courses and a stand-alone Graduate Certificate in Agricultural and Occupational Safety and Health. Our distance-based evening courses are perfect for busy Extension Professionals who want to learn more about preventing injuries and illnesses on farms, in ag-related industries, and in small business settings.

The new courses and certificate provide a great opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge without completing an entire graduate degree. You'll learn methods for preventing injuries involving toxic chemicals, livestock, farm structures, machinery, fires, explosions, noise, falls, engulfment in materials, pathogenic organisms, and more. This is practical knowledge you can share with farmers and small business owners during Extension activities in your own area.

Based on your interests, you can take individual courses or complete all four to earn the Graduate Certificate in Agricultural and Occupational Safety and Health. You may even be able to use the courses as electives if you are already working on a masters degree at K-State (consult your advisor about the possibilities).

To learn more, please see our website or contact Mitch Ricketts, 785-532-7066, if you’d like to discuss this opportunity further. The first Zoom course will be offered this fall: ASMS 723, Agricultural and Occupational Safety I, Tuesday evenings, 5:30 pm – 8:20 pm; August 25 - December 12, 2025. (3 graduate credit hours).
