Next Step in Enhancing Our Data Security
Kansas State University has implemented Duo two-factor authentication as one of many data security enhancements. Most of us are familiar with two-factor authentication from online shopping and banking transactions. All of our campus, regional and agent employees have already implemented the easy-to-use Duo.
Our next step in enhancing our data security is to expand the Duo security coverage to all of our county and district office employees, such as local unit office, communications and marketing, and program assistant professionals.
Please note: If you log on to Kansas State University systems as a local unit employee, you will need to use the Duo two-factor authentication.
In the next day or two, employees who need to join the Duo two-factor authentication system will receive the following email that provides general information about this important security enhancement. I thank you in advance for your joining the Duo two-factor authentication system.
Subject: KSE staff required to use Duo two-factor authentication
Dear KSE County or District Staff,
K-State is dedicated to ensuring data security. One way we are enhancing our security measures is through the implementation of Duo two-factor authentication. K-State stores sensitive student records, research data and financial information that are often targeted by hackers, making the use of Duo essential for protecting our educational mission and complying with federal privacy regulations.
By using Duo, you will add an extra layer of security to your K-State eID account, as it requires a secondary device to verify your identity. When logging into certain K-State systems, you will first enter your password and then provide a code from the Duo application.
You will receive an email invitation with instructions on how to enroll in Duo. This straightforward process can be completed using a smartphone, computer or laptop. Please make sure to enroll in Duo by October 17. If you need assistance with enrollment, contact the IT Service Desk at 785-532-7722 or 800-865-6143, or email support@ksu.edu. Additional help is also available online at the Duo Two-Factor Authentication webpage.
Please be aware that if you do not enroll in Duo by October 17, you will lose access to K-State systems, including your K-State email.
Thank you for your attention to this important security matter.
