‘Tis the Season for Board Development

Submitted by Jennifer Brantley

‘Twas the beginning of 2026, when all through Extension
Not a creature was stirring; there was no work intention.
The board books were created by the units with care.
In hopes that all new volunteers would appreciate the fanfare.

The directors were all snug in their offices,
While visions of successful board development gave them promises.
Of a year full of support and ideas abound,
For the team to make an impact in the community truly profound.

When the chimes from the inbox created such a clatter,
We sprang from our chairs to see a website banner.
We clicked on the link with immediate anticipation,
All kinds of resources were revealed for board education.

We found information on officer duties and meeting tools,
Personnel, budget, and modules with curriculum as if you were in school.
Wow! We exclaimed. This is all we need,
To start helping our board indeed!
They will understand the importance of their role and what needs to be done
To ensure that Extension work is second to none.

We sprang from our desks, excited for the year ahead,
As we knew that our boards would be well-informed as we share information on what was read,
We all then exclaimed, as we planned for a full year of board development,
2026 will most certainly be magnificent!

Be sure to visit the Extension Board Resources page on the K-State Extension website for the latest tips and tricks to support your board. Also, the regional directors are planning an orientation for board member via Zoom on Wednesday, January 21 at 6:30 pm. This will be an opportunity for new board members across the state to meet each other and learn about their roles and responsibilities.

Please share this information with your new board members and encourage their participation. A Zoom link and more details will be available soon.

We want to ensure that board members understand their important purpose in extension.

Have a great holiday season!
