Word from the Associate Director - Extension and Applied Research
A recent message from Kirk Weisler, "Are You Sure You Want a Leader?" caught my attention. Actually, it was one of the quotes that really caught my attention: "Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others." - John Maxwell. Each of you as Extension professionals are leaders, and indeed a pathway to becoming a great leader is in developing your ability to empower others to make good decisions and do great things!
I recently read the book, "Leadership and Self-Deception" by The Arbinger Institute. It is a great read, and only takes a few hours to read. I found all kinds of examples of experiences I could relate to, and in some cases found that maybe I did things right (out of the box), but most of the time much was left for improvement. Taking personal responsibility and avoiding blame is a great goal. Much to think through and much for which to aspire.
I hope you will take the time to read and continue to grow as an outstanding Extension professional! Have a great week.
