University to Begin Using Updated Mail Addresses
Kansas State University is updating its official address standard to meet technology and safety guidelines. The change is effective immediately.
The new format includes standard city street addresses, room number and building name. A full list of new campus addresses is available at http://www.k-state.edu/facilities/operations/cms/street-addresses.html.
As an example, Kansas State University's new official address standard is:
110 Anderson Hall
919 Mid Campus Dr North
Manhattan, KS 66506-0110
The addition of street addresses has numerous benefits and will:
• Improve the ability for emergency services such as fire, Emergency Medical Service and police to respond quickly and efficiently.
• Enable visitors to use modern technology and GPS to navigate the Manhattan campus with specific addresses.
• Strengthen student safety with the LiveSafe application, the university's safety app for smartphones.
While 911 guidelines for addresses require a standard city street address format, the university's previous format used room number and building name instead of city street address. Using elements of both address formats provides important information, said Loleta Sump, director of customer service in the Division of Facilities.
"Our previous address standard was established more than 25 years ago," Sump said. "Technology has advanced and now offers a more concise and streamlined method of identifying addresses and locations where 911 emergency assistance is needed," Sump said. "We need to be in compliance with all guidelines."
All existing letterhead, business cards and other documentation with the old address format may be used until July 1, 2016. University Printing will use the new address format for any new letterhead, business cards and documentation.
