Wait to Upgrade to Windows 10

Submitted by Joe Lear

As you’re probably aware, Windows 10 is supposed to be released in July. K-State Information Technology Services is not recommending the use of Windows 10 until it has been out for a while – usually six months.

You may be getting a notice about the free upgrade to it coming through your System Tray. If you sign up for it with your email address, you can download it and you have up to a year to install it. However, KSU has a contract with Microsoft that allows any University computer to have any current version installed free with no time limits. So, if you want the free upgrade on your personal computers, you should take advantage of the system tray offer on those PCs, but you don’t have to get in any rush to do it on a University or Extension owned PC.
