Kansas 4-H Staff, Volunteers Receive International Recognition

Submitted by Sarah Keatley

Kansas 4-H received the Extraordinary Quality Program Award by States' 4-H International Exchange Programs for their participation in the 2015 global citizenship youth exchange programs.

State coordinators Rose Scott and Mary Kay Munson received the award on behalf of the Kansas 4-H Youth Development Department at the annual States' 4-H Coordinators' Conference on November 6, in New Orleans. In addition, Extension agents Berny Unruh, Barton County; and Brenda Taxeras, Leavenworth County; and volunteer Jennifer Pfortmiller, Stafford County; received recognition for their significant contributions as volunteers. Kansas 4-H global citizenship programs and international exchange programs have been operating since 1948, and are led by Deryl Waldren, Extension specialist, 4-H youth development.

International youth education programs, in partnership with 4-H youth development across the U.S., serves to unify the critical elements of positive youth development, cultural competency and world understanding.
