Budget Update
In case you missed the letter from President Schulz last Friday, I'd suggest you follow this link to that message first, and then go on to read the remainder of my message.
For the Extension portion of the overall K-State Research and Extension budget, our best estimate of a 2% callback in this current fiscal year would amount to roughly $430,000. The Experiment Station portion of this budget callback would be roughly $700,000. And, the teaching budget will also be required to return 2% of its general use funding. Specifically how we finally return those funds has yet to be determined.
The second part of the message from Dr. Schulz indicates planning for a 2 to 4% permanent budget reduction for FY 2017. It is way too early to indicate how these reductions will take place, but holding any part of the budget harmless will be difficult, if not impossible. As budget plans are being developed in local Extension county and district units, my suggestion would be to anticipate a minimum of a 4% reduction in University funding support to local Extension units.
More to come in the coming weeks.
