Halting Certain Search and Screen Processes
With the University’s 2% reallocation and the Governor’s 3.0% call back for this current fiscal year, along with the University’s plans of an additional 2–4% permanent reduction for next fiscal year which begins July 1, we made the decision to halt all on-going search and screen processes that are happening for the Extension area and campus faculty positions. Three such positions were in process, including Family and Consumer Science Specialist located at the NW Research Extension Center in Colby; human nutrition specialist in Food, Nutrition, Dietetics, and Health; and, Department Head in 4-H Youth Development. At this time, this decision only affects positions with a primary appointment in Extension, but not positions with primary appointment in teaching and/or research. Also, at this time, we are not halting the filling of Extension agent positions across the state.
We have also determined the need to halt the internship program for this summer. Our share of the intern's salary will be used instead to help meet our immediate budget callback. We regret doing this as we recognize that the internship program facilitates program expansion in local offices and a great recruiting tool for future extension professionals.
Thank you for your patience as we await our final indication of the overall magnitude of the callback and the pending FY2017 permanent budget reduction.
