Farm and Ranch Succession Facilitator Training

Submitted by Janel Koons

Extension agents are invited to participate in facilitator training for farm and ranch succession hosted by Kansas Agricultural Mediation Services. The training will take place September 20, at the Butler County Extension Office in El Dorado. Participants will include current succession planning facilitators as well as those interested in becoming a facilitator and have a strong desire to work alongside families as they develop their succession plan.

The training will emphasize facilitating family meetings, navigating the succession planning process and applying various techniques to support farm and ranch families as they develop a succession plan. Trainees are also encouraged to attend a succession planning workshop series held in early 2017 for further opportunities to work with families in transition. These programs were made possible by a grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture Award Number 2015-49200-24226.

Lodging and travel for the training is on your own, but lunch will be provided. El Dorado does have a small number of hotels to choose from if overnight accommodation is needed.

If you are interested in attending facilitator training, please contact Janel Koons at 800-321-3276 or jksu@ksu.edu. For more information on succession planning and facilitation, visit ksre.k-state.edu/kams/succession.
