Diversity Programs Office Update

Submitted by Phil LeBlanc

The Diversity Programs Office would like to share some information about recent events involving the office:

• It was announced on November 15, that Vi Nguyen, sophomore in Animal Science, will be a Goss Discovery Scholarship recipient. This scholarship is for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Kansas State University that are studying abroad and is worth $5,000. Vi will attend Nagasaki University in the spring and continue her learning of the Japanese language. As part of her scholarship, when she returns to K-State she will share the educational and cultural experiences of her time abroad so that other students can learn about the opportunities available to participate in studying abroad as well.

Vi was a member of the 2015 Multicultural Academic Program Success (MAPS) class, she's currently a student worker in the Diversity Programs Office, and she is from Lincoln, NE.

• The K-State Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) chapter will hold their annual study hall before finals in 106 Waters Hall from Monday, December 5 - Friday, December 9, from 6  -10 p.m., and snacks will be available to those who attend. The office would like to thank Cargill for sponsoring this event.

• The K-State MANRRS chapter hosted a potluck on November 16 in Waters 137. Students from MANRRS and others from across the college and university attended. Students had the option to bring sweets, snacks, drinks or entrees. At the start of the potluck, students participated in an icebreaker to get to know each other and to decide who would be first in line for food. The response by the students to the event was great and it was a very fun and enjoyable night. Thanks to everyone who contributed and attended.
