Mark College and Career Day, Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Dodge City Community College

Submitted by Aliah Mestrovich Seay

The Center for Engagement and Community Development at Kansas State University has been supporting 4-H Youth Development on a statewide initiative to expose under-represented youth and families to a college experience. Please refer to the following link for agenda and registration information: http://www.ford.k-state.edu/College%20and%20career%20day%20April%202017.pdf.

In September of 2015, in collaboration with the Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, and Human Ecology, we were able to host a College and Career Day at K-State that served over 100 4-H youth and family members. The interested youth were from middle schools and high schools throughout the state of Kansas and particularly from southwest Kansas. Many of the families that attended had never set foot on a college campus before. The youth and parents were able to get a lot of their pressing questions answered about financial aid, standardized testing, college and career readiness, and speak directly to faculty from the above-mentioned departments.

This spring, for a second year in a row, we are partnering with Ryan Ausmus, Dean of Instruction and Outreach at Dodge City Community College, who has generously offered to host our 4-H youth and families at a local southwest Kansas college and career day event. We ask that you put April 20, on your calendar and start recruiting any interested youth and families that you feel may benefit. College and Career Day is focused on a youth audience from 6th to 12th grade but ANY family members are welcome to attend.

We cannot thank Ryan Ausmus and our very own 4-H agent, Lexi Kiniston from Ford County Extension, enough for their leadership on this spring 2017 project for a second year in a row! We feel that by offering a College and Career Day locally, many more southwest Kansas families will be able to attend because it will be right in their backyard.

Please let us know if you have any questions. The registration deadline for this event is March 31, 2017.

Please email your registration to Lexi Kiniston, Ford County 4-H Youth Development Agent, at lkiniston@ksu.edu or call 620-227-4542.

Thank you for your interest and support with our recruiting efforts!
