Diversity Programs Office Update

Submitted by Phil LeBlanc

The Diversity Programs Office (DPO) in the College of Agriculture is dedicated to providing and promoting leadership opportunities, understanding, goodwill, diversity and friendship among students, staff and faculty in the College of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension. Read below to find out more about the activities and events that help us implement the office’s mission:

• On Friday, April 14, MANRRS President Adriana Meneses and member Carlos Flores presented Steven Graham, assistant to the dean and director, with a Certificate of Appreciation and a MANRRS polo at his retirement reception. Steven Graham is a visible supporter of the MANRRS chapter and all of the students congratulate and wish him well on his retirement.

• The K-State Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) Chapter would like to thank everyone who joined and participated in last week’s MANRRS Week. There were scheduled activities Monday-Saturday that raised awareness about MANRRS, gave back to the community, or were social events.

The K-State MANRRS Chapter will continue collecting clothes for the F.I.T. Closet and Clothing Exchange until Friday, April 21. The F.I.T. Closet and Clothing Exchange is USD 383’s means of providing many of the necessary essentials (e.g. school supplies, shoes, clothing, coats, toiletries, hygiene products, laundry detergent as well as emergency food) so children can attend class and integrate successfully. Last year, USD 383 served over 300 homeless children by the end of the school year.

• Tomorrow, the Diversity Programs Office in the College of Agriculture will host students from Wichita High School Southeast. High school students visiting K-State will hear from the K-State MANRRS Chapter, Dr. Kim Williams from the Horticulture and Natural Resources Department, and tour the Feed Mill and Extrusion Lab.

Please continue to look for more diversity news and events as we continue to advertise. We appreciate your support. For more information about upcoming events or to collaborate with the DPO, please call 785-532-5793 or contact Dr. Zelia Wiley, Interim Associate Provost of Diversity, zwiley@ksu.edu.
