Diversity Programs Office
The start of June means that summer programs have officially begun in the Diversity Programs Office (DPO). The weekend before last we welcomed five students for the K-State Research & Extension Summer Research Fellowship Program. We are excited and energized for what is to come both this month and in July.
DPO would like to share some information about our summer programs:
2017 KSRE Summer Fellowship: This program is educational in nature and designed so that the participants receive the primary benefit by learning hands-on research techniques, methods, procedures, and about related topics. By the end of the 8-week period, June 5 to July 28, students should have produced tangible research results demonstrating his/her knowledge of experimental research and will report the results in a special research forum.
The following students are participants of the 2017 KSRE Fellowship:
Christina Bradshaw, North Carolina A&T University; Riann White, Florida A&M University; Lonnie Hobbs, Prairie View A&M University; Shirley Fritzsching, Prairie View A&M University and Dalia Sanchez, Kansas State University.
2017 MAPS: The Project Impact Summer Bridge Program gives students the opportunity to earn up to 6 credit hours over six weeks. This summer the College of Agriculture will be hosting 10 students for this program. Students arrived last Friday, June 9, and will be on campus until July 21.
The following students are members of the 2017 MAPS College of Agriculture Cohort:
Gerardo Hernandez- Garcia, Agronomy; Halle Tophoj, Animal Science & Industry; Olivia Sibert, Pre-Vet Med; Madison White, Pre-Vet Med; Aaron Davis, Wildlife and Outdoor Enterprise Management; Jazmyn Schroeder- Thomas, Animal Science & Industry; Eric Valenzuela, Animal Science & Industry; Marisa Avila, Animal Science & Industry; Johari Snell, Food Science & Industry; Antonio Santos, Food Sciences and Industry.
2017 Nicodemus Educational Camp: In partnership with KSU and the College of Agriculture, will give the campers, grades 5 – 10, the opportunities to explore majors and careers in the Agriculture industry as well as learning about the historic town of Nicodemus. Students arrive for this program on June 26- 27. While on campus they will visit the Insect Zoo, The Gardens, O. H. Kruse Feed Technology Innovation Center, and Agronomy North Farm and participate in an urban gardening activity. We want thank everyone for helping to provide these students with a great experience.
