As My Second Week Begins...
As my second week as the Associate Director for Cooperative Extension begins, I want to thank everybody who reached out to me last week with wishes of good luck, expressions of great expectations, ideas, and other expressions of concern for the people we serve, our fellow Extension professionals and K-State Research and Extension. Comments, proposals, and such expressions are important and needed as we look to make K-State Research and Extension even better at providing the research-backed education the people of Kansas need to improve their lives, livelihoods, and communities.
As we look to making the best Extension program even better, I was going to remind us of our mission and vision. Dr. Moore, however, beat me to it with his contribution to this week’s Tuesday Letter. I ask that you read his article, think about our mission and vision, and ask yourself, do our mission, vision, and elevator speeches correspond with the impressions that the majority of Kansans have about us? Do a majority of Kansans feel positive about the work we do and, more importantly, the impact we have on their lives? If the answer to those questions aren’t as positive as you would like, or, even if the answers are in the affirmative, I ask you to do two things. First, think about what we can do as individual Extension professionals and as a system to leave an even more positive impression in the minds of Kansas. Second, bring those thoughts to my attention.
