Fair Labor Standards Act Update
On August 31, a federal judge in Texas struck down a rule from the Department of Labor that would have extended overtime pay to many more employees in the US workforce.
What is the impact of this latest action on local units of K-State Research and Extension?
Extension agents were already exempt from the proposed overtime rules due to the teacher exemption in the Fair Labor Standards Act so the latest action has no impact.
Office professionals and locally employed program assistants will remain non-exempt employees and thus eligible for compensatory time off for any hours worked over 40 in a work week.
See additional guidance for implementing the Fair Labor Standards Act in local Extension units.
