Calling all High School Students!
We would like to extend the invitation to all high school students with an interest in understanding and improving the global food system to participate in the World Food Prize Kansas Youth Institute. Participation is easy! Students must choose a food insecurity topic and a developing country (from a list on our website). After researching that particular issue in that country, they write a two to three page paper with the help of a teacher or mentor (including an Extension agent), discussing the details of the food issue in a developing nation and possible solutions. Submissions are due March 30.
They are then invited to attend the 5th annual World Food Prize Kansas Youth Institute (KYI) this year on April 17, hosted by the K-State College of Agriculture. At the KYI, they will join in the conversation with industry professionals and experts dedicated to solving problems like the ones addressed in their papers. Participants will also get to learn more about the vast amount of research currently happening at K-State to combat food insecurity and global food system issues. Additionally, all students participating will receive a $500 scholarship to the College of Agriculture at Kansas State University. At least two students from our institute will be invited to serve as delegates to the Global Youth Institute at the World Food Prize in October.
