Food Recovery and Strategic Communications Workshops

Submitted by Barbara Goode

With funding from USDA Rural Utilities Service, the Kansas State University Pollution Prevention Institute and Kansas Alliance for Wellness will be conducting train-the-trainer workshops on minimizing food waste generation and diverting unused/unwanted food away from landfills.

Training will promote EPA’s hierarchy of food recovery which lists donating food to food-insecure populations as one of its top solutions. The workshop will feature training on strategic communications including advocacy, marketing and messaging. These skills can be applied in your community when conducting public campaigns advocating for food system policies.

There is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided. Each of the Kansas workshops will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at one of the following locations: Salina, June 14; Iola, June 21; and Oakley, June 28. Register at www.sbeap.org. If you have questions or need accommodations to attend these workshops, please contact Barb at barblj@ksu.edu or 785-452-9456.
