Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Submitted by Kaitlyn Peine

K-State Research and Extension Douglas County will be hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid training on Thursday, May 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The training will be at the Dreher Family 4-H Building located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St., Lawrence, KS. The training will be facilitated by Julia Gilmore Gaughan, Prevention and Education Manager at Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center.

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them with the appropriate care. This particular training will focus on youth.

Registration is $35 per person. The registration fee covers snacks, lunch and the program materials. Registration will close on May 1 or until the class reaches capacity. To register, visit http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=tvkeonpab&oeidk=a07eg5wf18p2a4e8ebd.
