Reminder- Food Safety in Emergency Situations Info Available

Submitted by Londa Nwadike

This year has been a great reminder that there is always a possibility that a natural disaster/ emergency situation, such as a flood, tornado, fire, or power outage can occur. If your community does have to face one of these situations, there are a number of resources available to provide information related to food safety in such emergency situations. The Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN), https://eden.lsu.edu/, includes links to a large number of resources from across the US on this important topic. Our KSRE website also includes links to KSRE materials and other key trusted resources on this topic at https://www.ksre.k-state.edu/foodsafety/topics/disaster.html.

Our Prepare Kansas online challenge for 2019 is on the topic of Food Safety in Emergencies, so more great information is available for the public on that blog: https://blogs.k-state.edu/preparekansas/. There are also some other exciting initiatives upcoming in Kansas related to preparing for food safety in emergency situations, so stay tuned for more information as well!
