Shout Out: John Holman, Keith Harmoney, and Bob Gillen

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

This week’s Shout Out is from Lucas Haag and is directed to John Holman, Keith Harmoney, and Bob Gillen. Lucas writes:

“I received a producer question that was far outside my area of expertise. I cast a wide net with a group email, with the producer copied to it, and in short order had several great replies sharing their knowledge, experience, and opinions with our Extension client.

OK, I know you are thinking... this isn’t different than what we do every day around here. That is true, but in the words of Paul Harvey, “and now, the rest of the story.” This producer is in a location where Extension (in general, and agronomy specifically) has struggled to be perceived as relevant. The producer we interacted with is young, innovative, and well respected. EXACTLY the type of person we needed to make a good impression with. As an added note, this entire interaction occurred electronically. I received the question via a direct message on Twitter, and the discussion and sharing of knowledge back to the producer (and amongst all of us) occurred via group email. As an organization, we have placed a high level of importance on in-person interaction and education methods, and those are important. However, this serves as an example of using technology to work at the speed of business which also happens to be the speed that our clientele expects us to operate at.

Thank you gentlemen for helping me make a positive impression for KSRE.”

John, Keith and Bob, thanks for this and all the work you do!

If you have a colleague or team of colleagues that deserve a Shout Out for a job well done, please send an email with their name and the reason for the Shout Out to ghadley@ksu.edu. We have several in the cue right now, but don’t let that stop you from nominating deserving people for a Shout Out. It is a great problem to have. We will get to them all!
