Livestock PFT Spring Meeting
The Livestock Program Focus Team would like to invite you to our spring meeting happening on March 16 and 17, in Lawrence. This workshop is based on livestock production, but everyone is invited regardless of your PFT affiliation. We will kick off the meeting on March 16, at 12:30 p.m. by gathering at the Douglas County Fairgrounds to carpool to our tour locations, due to limited parking.
Our first tour will be at Central Grazing Company, a sheep herd focused on sustainable pasture management, meat subscription boxes, and designer leather hand bags. Next, we will visit Santa Fe Trails Meats processing plant to learn about desirable meat qualities. That evening we will be hearing from IdentiGEN about how they use DNA in meat to trace and verify the exact origin of products while we enjoy supper.
We will start the following day with presentations about Pond Algae Management from the Kansas Biological Survey and how to Connect With Consumers with Wrenn Pacheco from Cooking with the Cowboy. The PFT business meeting will conclude the morning session around noon. For those interested, we will be holding a BRANDS training following an open lunch from 1-3 p.m.
The PFT has booked a block of rooms at the Country Inn & Suites (2176 E 23rd St., Lawrence, KS) located a mile from the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Please plan to share a room as only 20 are available. To receive the group rate and have the PFT pay for your stay, use this link or call 785-749-6010 and mention K-State Agriculture to book. When booking, you will use your credit card to hold the room, but the PFT will pay for the rooms at the time of the event. The cutoff date for the discounted rate is March 2.
