The Community Health Corner

Submitted by Elaine Johannes

According to the CDC, community health uses science-based approaches to bring the greatest health benefit to the greatest number of people by addressing the conditions and determinants that impact health. Changes in policies, systems, environments and settings are among the most effective ways to tackle big health issues. Being healthy is not just about individual choices; it’s also about the conditions and partnerships that influence the health of everyone.

The following are community health tools that you can use for Grand Challenge for Health efforts:

• REGISTER NOW – February 23-25; Virtual Workshop on One Health Approaches to Infectious Disease Outbreaks (NASEM Health and Medicine)

• REGISTER NOW – February 16 (12 - 1 p.m. CST); A Playbook for Modernizing the Kansas Behavioral Health System (KHI; KS Health Institute)

• LEARN NOW – recording of Policy Approaches for Chronic Disease Prevention (implementation science to move health forward) by Dr. Ross Brownson, Washington University, St. Louis (recorded on January 26 as part of the KDHE Community Health Summit)
