Shout Out: Sedgwick County Staff

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

This week's Shout Out comes from Jennifer Brantley, Sedgwick County Director, and is being given to the Sedgwick County staff. Jennifer writes:

"I would like to give a shout out to the Sedgwick County staff who jumped into motion and served the public in need late one recent Friday afternoon.

The Sedgwick County Extension office is at a busy intersection in Wichita and we see plenty of accidents. But this accident was school bus vs. pickup truck. The bus was full of kids coming back from an activity for a day camp and they needed help. Extension staff welcomed 39 kids into our building who were bruised, hot, shaken, and crying. Within minutes, the staff was able to round up water bottles, snacks, ice packs, and crayons. The team was able to console the kids, help the camp counselors with their needs as they contacted parents, and guide parents to the room where they were able to pick up their kids. The staff kept working with our guests well after closing time to ensure that everyone was comfortable and had their needs met.

One doesn't realize the impact that this afternoon had on these kiddos. But when they left, several of them gave us the pictures they drew. A couple of them were of a school bus running into a pickup."

Sedgwick County staff, thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Research and Extension.

If you know of a colleague or team of colleagues who deserve recognition for a job well done, why not nominate them for a Shout Out. Simply send their name(s) and the reason for the Shout Out to ksreshoutout@ksu.edu.
