Shout Out: Karen Blakeslee

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

This week the Shout Out comes from Clara Wicoff, Food, Nutrition and Health agent in Southwind District, and is directed to Karen Blakeslee, Rapid Response Coordinator and Extension Associate in the department of Animal Sciences and Industry. Clara writes:

"I would like to submit a shout out for Karen Blakeslee. Karen wears many hats, including serving as the Rapid Response Center Coordinator, the Kansas Value Added Foods Lab Co-Director and leading the Master Food Volunteer Program.

As a new agent, there were many times when I relied on Karen to help answer questions from constituents to ensure I was providing a research-based response. In addition to rapidly answering questions about everything from canning to safely dealing with an odor in the freezer, Karen also came to the Southwind District last fall to provide a hands-on food preservation workshop. 100% of the participants who completed the post-survey indicated that they would recommend this program to others!

Additionally, I am currently working to train a new Master Food Volunteer and Karen's work to create an online training option for Master Food Volunteers made this possible. Thank you, Karen, for all that you
do!"

Karen, thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Research and Extension.

If you know of a colleague or team of colleagues who deserve recognition for a job well done, why not nominate them for a Shout Out. Simply send their name(s) and the reason for the Shout Out to ksreshoutout@ksu.edu. Also, it would be very helpful if you would put "Shout Out" in the subject line of the email.
