EPA Worker Protection Standard (WPS) Pesticide Safety Trainings Upcoming

Submitted by Londa Nwadike

KSRE has upcoming webinars geared for Kansas (and Missouri) farmers on the topic of EPA Worker Protection Standard (WPS) pesticide safety. Farmers must comply with WPS requirements if all three of the following apply:

1) They own or manage an agricultural establishment (i.e., farm, orchards, nurseries, greenhouses, etc.), and

2) Their work is directly related to producing agricultural plants, and

3) WPS-labeled pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, miticides, etc.) have been applied on their establishment within the last 30 days. WPS-labeled pesticides may be restricted-use pesticides or general-use pesticides. Look for the “Agricultural Use Requirements” box on the pesticide label.

Please note that the KDA pesticides group has recently begun conducting WPS inspections. Accordingly, KSRE is offering free 50 minute webinars on the following dates:

June 15, 2023 – 2-3 p.m.

July 26, 2023 – 10-11 a.m.

August 23, 2023 – 2-3 p.m.

September 26, 2023 – 10-11 a.m.

October 17, 2023 – 2-3 p.m.

More information and registration is available at www.ksre.k-state.edu/foodsafety/produce/epa-wps/index.html. If you have any questions, contact Cal Jamerson at 913-709-0281 or agri@ksu.edu. This material is based upon work supported by USDA- NIFA under Award Number 2021-70027-34694.
