The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development strategies and health literacy programs to ensure that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. The following resources help us improve well-being for all, and achieve Healthy Kansas 2030 and Healthy People 2030 objectives.
Climate Change Outlook: The Office of Climate Change and Health Equity (OCCHE) has released its December 2023 Climate and Health Outlook. This edition explores the climate-related health hazards of drought, and for the first time, winter weather. Check out this edition to learn your county’s risk for winter hazards along with how El Niño is forecasted to act alongside long-term trends (due in part to climate change) to impact seasonal temperatures and precipitation in your region.
Structural Ageism: The American Society on Aging has published a special edition of its Generations Journal focused on structural ageism. The edition features several articles that explore how social identities intertwine with ageism and ableism, as well as a focus on advocacy, policy, and law.
Adolescent Mental Health: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Division of School and Adolescent Health (DASH) released a new school mental health action guide. This action guide is a direct response to recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey findings, which show that adolescent mental health has been worsening for more than a decade and that key indicators of poor mental health have reached alarming levels
