How Does the University Raises Affect Local Extension Agents?

Submitted by Chris Onstad

President Linton recently announced a 2% raise for university employees that will take effect July 5. This is great news and it’s always nice to get a little extra in our paychecks. However, Extension agent contracts are different than general university employees. Contracts for Extension agents are for the calendar year vs. fiscal year for other university employees.

The 2% will be added to the amount that KSRE contributes to the local units every month beginning in July, 2024. The extra funds will accumulate in local unit budgets and be used when agent contracts are issued this winter for the 2025 calendar year.

The 2% increase is only on the KSRE allotment to local units and hopefully the local Extension units are able to provide matching funds for a true 2% or greater raises for agents.
