The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development strategies and health literacy programs to ensure that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. The following resources help us improve well-being for all, and achieve Healthy Kansas 2030 and Healthy People 2030 objectives.

September is Healthy Aging Month: Each September, Healthy Aging Month is celebrated to promote ways people can stay healthy as they age. Explore the healthy aging resources, bookmark the Healthy People 2030 and Older Adults page, share the Move Your Way® materials for older adults, and check out the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Midcourse Report. Resources related to healthy aging from the National Institute on Aging are available here. Finally, consider registering for the 2024 National Healthy Aging Symposium to hear from experts on innovations to improve the health and well-being of older adults.

Empowering Diabetes Prevention, Treatment, and Management. The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) is pleased to announce its next Healthy People 2030 webinar, Healthy People 2030: Empowering Diabetes Prevention, Treatment, and Management.

The webinar will also feature a presentation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics to share the latest data on the three featured objectives and a joint presentation by the American Diabetes Association and the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists to share details on their efforts to empower diabetes specialists and people with diabetes to improve health and well-being. Continuing Education Credits* (CEs) are available.

This webinar will take place on Wednesday, September 25th from 11:00 am ET to 12:00 pm ET. To register, please visit the Healthy People 2030 Webinar Series Registration Page.

Heat Planning, Response, And Resilience: Roughly 1,220 people are killed by extreme heat in the U.S. every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), making heat the nation’s leading weather-related killer. The federal interagency National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) released a National Heat Strategy for 2024-2030 which aims to promote proactive coordination related to heat planning, response, and resilience. The federal departments and agencies involved in developing this strategy acknowledge the impact of heat on the health and well-being of humans, animals, and ecosystems, as well as associated economic and societal consequences.
