K-State and Kansas Health Foundation Partner for Anti-Hunger Efforts in Kansas
Submitted by Office of Engagement
MANHATTAN, KS – Kansas State University and the Kansas Health Foundation are combining efforts to drive meaningful change in Kansas through anti-hunger initiatives. This partnership aims to support the statewide initiative, Hunger-Free Kansas, and aligns with K-State's mission to promote health, well-being, and economic prosperity for Kansans.
A key element of this partnership will involve collaborative efforts to ignite innovative and experimental projects at the local level, guided by K-State Research and Extension agents. To support these initiatives, KHF is providing $250,000 in funding, primarily directed to local extension offices through mini-grants ranging from $5,000-$20,000.
Agent proposal submissions should enhance collaboration between KSU affiliated members (faculty, staff, specialists, etc.) and local community partners, with a focus on addressing hunger and food insecurity locally and/or regionally.
Projects should aim to advance policy, systems, and environmental change and fit into one of four categories:
-
Cross-Sector Learning: Enhancing collaboration and knowledge-sharing between different sectors.
-
School-based Nutrition Programs: Improving access to nutritious food in schools.
-
Alternative Food Systems: Developing sustainable and equitable food systems.
-
Social Services Access: Connecting individuals to social services and safety nets.
Priority funding will be given to applications that demonstrate intentional policy change, focus on populations in need, and/or catalyze additional resources.
KSRE faculty and staff are invited to attend an informational webinar opportunity on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 pm to learn more about the mini-grants and application process. View webinar registration. (A recording of the webinar will be uploaded on the KSRE’s mini grant website.)
