4-H Youth Development Specialist for the Southwest Region

I am excited to announce that Zaira Ruiz has accepted the position of 4-H Youth Development Specialist for the Southwest Region. She will begin her new role on May 11. Zaira is currently pursuing her PhD in Sociology at Kansas State University. She brings a unique skill set that includes a strong service attitude of “How can I help?,” an in-depth understanding of Southwest Kansas issues, excellent communication skills, experience as a small business entrepreneur, dedication to human wellness in the region, and an enthusiastic energy that will be invaluable in developing new partnerships and collaborations to advance the 4-H mission.
Zaira will work closely with the 4-H team led by Dr. Sarah Mass, have some statewide responsibilities, and will be a faculty member in the WKREC Department. Sarah and I look forward to welcoming her to the team in May. Please join us in congratulating Zaira by sending her a welcome email at zaira@ksu.edu.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to Chandra Plate for serving as the Search Committee Chair, along with committee members Beth Hinshaw, Janet Harkness, and Bertha Mendoza.
