Become a Trained Facilitator – Two Sessions offered in 2026

Submitted by Lora Horton

Engaged Extension professionals regularly lead conversations that shape programs, partnerships, and community progress. Strong facilitation skills help us guide groups through meaningful dialogue, keep discussions productive, and create space where people feel heard and valued.

Facilitation is more than managing tough moments—it’s about building trust, supporting collaboration, and helping groups move from ideas to action. Whether you’re leading a planning meeting, coordinating partners, gathering community input, or working through complex decisions, facilitation tools can help you strengthen participation, improve communication, and support better outcomes.

Taking the Facilitator Training has been incredibly valuable in both my personal and professional life. I’ve found the skills helpful in everyday Extension work—from navigating water conversations to easing tensions between 4 H families and the fair board. The tools and confidence I have gained through this training have made a meaningful difference in my work, and I highly encourage all Extension professionals to consider participating.

If you are interested in building or strengthening these skills, we invite you to apply for the Facilitation Initiative Intensive Training (FIIT), a three-day intensive training course to elevate your facilitation skills and tools. Two sessions are offered in 2026: April 13–15 in Olathe and December 1–3 at Rock Springs Ranch. Join other Extension agents, specialists, and partners to dive deep into facilitative skills and tools, identify a current or future situation where facilitation could be used, practice a variety of facilitation strategies, and participate in an extended facilitation experience with valuable peer feedback.

This training is conducted by Extension Facilitation team members and is offered at no cost (including food, travel, and lodging) to Extension faculty and staff.

Apply today for the three-day Facilitation Initiative Intensive Training (FIIT), offered in April and November.
