Diversity Programs Office Update
This summer has been a very busy, rewarding time for the Diversity Programs Office (DPO). The DPO was intricately involved in the 2015 Summer New Student Enrollment and Orientation by conducting parent sessions to address their student’s transition to college, as well as meeting incoming students and communicating to them about the resources and opportunities the DPO has for them. We are excited to welcome our fall 2015 class!
DPO would like to share some information about our summer programs:
• Kansas State Research & Extension (KSRE) Summer Research Fellowship participants are half way through their research. They would like for you to save the date of July 23, 1:30 p.m. in Waters Hall room 137. During that time, they will be giving a 10-12 minute presentation over their summer research. We hope you can make time to support our young scholars!
• Nicodemus Educational Camp was held in three parts: June 8, June 15-17, and June 22-23. Students had the opportunity to visit the Dairy and Agronomy Farms, the Grain, Mill and Bakery Science Tour, and the Sheep and Goat unit. The DPO hosted the Nicodemus Educational Camp for a presentation about MANRRS, Agricultural majors, and career opportunities. The camp was a success and we would like to thank everyone that helped make this camp successful.
• MAPS: The Project IMPACT Summer Bridge Program students are half way through their program! The students started off the program with the Guaranteed 4.0 Learning System Seminar, a workshop targeting time management and maximizing study materials. It was a great way to help our MAPS students get focused and prepared to start their college classes. So far, the students have been on three Industry Tours (Cargill, Phillips 66 and Union Pacific) and are now in the final stretch of their program. We would like to thank all of our college and KSRE faculty/staff who have assisted in making their summer a success!! The closing ceremony will be held July 23, in the K-State Union Ballroom.
• Please join us in welcoming Philip LeBlanc to the DPO/College of AG/KSRE family. He will serve in the role as graduate assistant, majoring in Academic Advising and he is from St. Marys, KS. His role is to work with all of our young scholars. Most importantly, he will assist us with our daily work for diversity success. His first day is Monday, July 13. Please stop by the office to tell him, “hello.”
Please continue to look for more diversity events as we continue to advertise. We appreciate your support. For more information about upcoming events or to collaborate with the DPO, please call 785-532-5793 or contact Dr. Zelia Wiley, Assistant Dean of Diversity, zwiley@ksu.edu.
