Diversity Update
The Diversity Programs Office would like to share some information about our upcoming events:
- The K-State Black Student Union is partnering with the K-State Alumni Center in "Adinkrahene: A Celebration of the Leadership of Dr. Myra E. Gordon." This event is to honor and celebrate Dr. Gordon, Associate Provost for Diversity, as she plans to retire at the end of 2015. The event takes place on Saturday, November 7, from 9 - 11:30 a.m., in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. If you’re interested in sharing a note of gratitude, please contact Dr. Jessica Elmore at jlsmith8@ksu.edu or 785-532-5060.
- Multicultural Pride Day was on Friday, September 25, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the K-State Union. This day served as a way to have high school students, groups and their parents spend a day exploring K-State's campus and learning about college life.
- Mr. Greg Page, Executive Chairman of Cargill, was the speaker for the Gardiner Lecture at McCain Auditorium on Monday, October 12, at 7 p.m. After the lecture there was a small reception. On October 15, Cargill conducted on campus interviews through Career & Employment Services in Holtz Hall. Cargill Scholars from across campus attended in gratitude for the opportunity Cargill has given them to continue their education.
- The K-State Chapter of MANRRS is headed to the 2015 Region 4 MANRRS conference in Jefferson City, MO on the campus of Lincoln University from October 23 - 25. Members will attend sessions, a career and graduate fair, as well as a banquet. We are proud of our student delegation, led by Phil LeBlanc and Tiffany Carter, and wish them safe travels!
- The 9th Annual Midwest H.A.L.O. Encuentro was held on Tuesday, October 6, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Kansas State University Grand Ballroom. The guest speaker was Roy Juarez with a special performance by Grupo Tropa Norteno. Visiting students appreciated the workshops with topics geared towards leadership and life in college as they participated in a day-long photo contest with the hashtag #HALOEncuentro2015.
- Congratulations are in order for Dr. Wiley! She is headed to the Annual KSRE Conference during October 20-22 to receive the Epsilon Sigma Phi Fraternity’s Individual Diversity Award. It is always a pleasure to see Dr. Wiley’s hard work being recognized!
