ALL 4-H FCS Judging Local Unit Resources NOW Posted

Submitted by Andrea Feldkamp

Thank you for your interest and patience as we completed the final pieces of the 4-H FCS Judging resources for your local unit use. The following items are now available for your use:

*2016 FCS Local Unit Resource Video – This is a recorded version of the Zoom video that the FCS Judging Committee conducted on Wednesday, January 13. The video is 58 minutes in length, and shares information about all the resources that are available to you.

*Scavenger Hunt Photos – This document contains color copies of the photos that you will need to do the scavenger hunt. Simply print the copies that you need and cut the photos apart for individual prints.

*Scavenger Hunt Rubric – The first page of this document is the scoring rubric. The following pages contain justification for each photo’s placement in the FCS Essential Skills categories, which will assist with scoring of this experience.

These items, as well as all the other items that have been posted are available here: http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/contests/fcs-judging/fcs-judging-preparation.html.

We will not be sending items electronically to units, as there have been 18 different media files posted for your use.

Another resource that can be utilized, are these promotion blurbs for your local newsletters or email blasts about 4-H FCS Judging. Becky Reid created these, and we hope that they will help you spread the word about your local 4-H FCS contest initiatives.

Option 1 (event with all 3 components):
The Family and Consumer Sciences Judging Contest has a new format! Local youth will practice decision making and share reasons on (localized with date, time, location, etc). The contest format will include a photo scavenger hunt, immersion experience and oral presentation that will be completed by teams of two. Grab a friend and check out this new experience!

Option 2 (Photo Scavenger Hunt):
What does healthy living look like to you? Participants in the Photo Scavenger Hunt will review photos and provide reasons to identify photos that support various categories. This challenge is part of the new Family and Consumer Sciences Judging Contest. Plan to participate with a friend (the event is designed for teams of two) on (date, time, location).

Option 3 (Immersion Experience):
Get ready to be immersed in the Family and Consumer Sciences Contest. The new format will challenge teams of two members to identify reasons and make decisions. The contest will be held on (date, time, location). Team members will view an introductory video introducing the Immersion Challenge followed by three challenges to test their knowledge and creativity.

Option 4: (Oral Presentation)
The new format of the Family and Consumer Sciences contest challenges youth to work in teams of two to develop an oral presentation. Teams will draw two possible topics and then have 20 minutes to prepare a speech on one of the topics. Plan to participate in this event on (date, time, location).
