K-State Black History Month Activities

The Diversity Programs Office (DPO) would like to share some information about our upcoming events.

• Join the K-State Chapter of MANRRS as we share the accomplishments and biographies of the first black graduates Trailblazers of Kansas State University: The First Black Graduates Revisited: George Washington Owens and Minnie Howell! This event will take place February 10 at 6 p.m. in Waters Hall, Room 137. Refreshments and pizza will be provided so please come out as we celebrate our past K-State family.

• The DPO would like to announce that Black History Month has started! The theme for the month is "A Different World: The Black Experience," so the hashtag on all of social media will be #TheBlackExperience. Please attend and participate in these events this month! The events are as follows:

Monday, February 1:
Start of Social Media Campaign

Tuesday, February 2:
“Crazy Eights” hosted by Delta Sigma Theta K-State Union, Room 227, 7 p.m.

Tuesday, February 9:
Maggie Anderson: "My Year of Buying Black"  at K-State Alumni Center Ballroom, 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
**First 50 guests will receive a free copy of Anderson's book, "Our Black Year: One Family's Quest to Buy Black in America's Racially Divided Economy."

Wednesday, February 10:
Trailblazers of Kansas State University: “First Black Graduates Revisited” hosted by MANRRS in Waters Hall, Room 137.
**Pizza and refreshments will be served.

Friday, February 12:
Boys and Girls Club Collaboration. Boys and Girls Club, 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.
**Sign-up to attend

Monday, February 15:
Soul Café ft. Tebe Zalango and “The Ministry” at K- State Union Main Ballroom, 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. K-State Student Performances
**Sign-up by Feb. 12 to perform.

Tuesday, February 16:
Business Fashion Show hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha
**Model sign-up deadline: Friday, February 12
Black Celebrity discussion in K-State Union, Room 227, 7 p.m.

Wednesday, February 17:
Black Leadership Conference at the K-State Union, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Tuesday, February 23:
“Our Story: Black at K-State” in the Hemisphere Room, Hale Library, 7 p.m.

Thursday-Saturday, February 25-27:
Ebony Theatre - "The Dutchman" at the New Purple Masque Theatre (East Stadium next to Alumni Center), 7:30 p.m.

Thursday-Saturday, February 25-27:
Big XII Conference on Black Student Leadership in Lawrence.

Study Sessions - Every Sunday in Room 401, Hale Library 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.
