Burn season is starting soon! Air quality specialists from K-State‘s Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering is providing a half-day (9:30 a.m. - noon) workshop on pasture burning, smoke management, and air quality in March in Manhattan. Inspired by the constructive discussion and feedback we received from participants at last year’s workshop, this year’s workshop will again cover the basics, updated with new data and recent research findings on the contribution of smoke to air quality.

Topics to be included during the workshop include:
1. Flint Hills pasture burning: A challenge for air quality.
2. Quantifying the contributions from pasture burning: Recent research findings.
3. Managing smoke: Our strategies and opportunities, the smoke modeling tool.
4. Survey and discussion. Where are we headed?

The objectives of the workshop are to:
1. Introduce people to smoke related air quality issues, cover regulation updates, and provide science-based information to help people understand and implement smoke management plans.
2. Provide sources of additional smoke management information and tools
3. Build networking connections
4. Seek feedback to improve the extension program.
