4-H Department Honors Ray Bartholomew
Ray Bartholomew, the 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator and Reno County Volunteer, was honored as the Kansas Department of 4-H Youth Development’s 2016 Distinguished Service Award recipient. He has served as the 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator for the past 10 years.
Through this role Ray focuses on recruiting, orienting, and training other adults to become certified shooting sports coordinators and instructors. Furthermore, once the volunteers are certified in their specific disciplines, Ray oversees the volunteers’ educational flow of information where he contributes nearly 20 hours per week organizing certified training workshops, up-dating coordinators on national revisions, answering questions from local unit coordinators and preparing the Kansas Annual Report submitted to National. The total hours he has contributed exceed 1,040 for a value-added of $22,505.60 for extending the 4-H Shooting Sports educational programs statewide.
But, it’s the “I got it moment” that keeps Ray Bartholomew motivated and involved with the Kansas 4-H Shooting Sports Program. The moment when a 4-H member masters the shooting pattern on the paper target, Ray knows the young person is hooked on 4-H Shooting Sports. Ray finds satisfaction in knowing the young person has been successful and is willing to work towards expanding the opportunity to more 4-H members across the state. He believes the educational values in the 4-H Shooting Sports are the best there are to offer as an entry level to the sports.
Congratulations, Ray!
