January 2017 Is Kansas Radon Action Month!
Governor Brownback has declared January 2017 Kansas Radon Action Month! Winter is an ideal time for Kansas residents to test their homes for indoor radon gas concentrations, either for the first time or to make sure an installed radon mitigation system is adequately controlling indoor radon levels. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends actively reducing radon levels in homes when they are confirmed at or above 4 picocuries of radon per liter of air (pCi/L).
Please consider adding radon programing to your January-March curricula. Kansas Radon Program (KRP) personnel are available for either in-person public presentations or remotely for radio interviews or newspaper articles. The KRP will be running 30-sec radon informational spots on television and radio statewide January 15, 2017 through March 15, 2017; these spots will be available in Spanish. Radon test kits are still available for county and district Extension offices through the KRP for $5 per kit if your office is running low!
Visit www.kansasradonprogram.org for more information. Contact Brian Hanson with the KRP at 785-532-4996 or at bhanson@ksu.edu with any questions, requests for media interviews or presentation events, and to order radon test kits.
