Financially Speaking

Submitted by Susie Latta

Health Insurance Open Enrollment ended October 31, but that doesn’t mean you can stop thinking about your health insurance. A lot of things are happening with the State of Kansas Health Insurance that you need to pay attention to. It is time to start thinking about your Health Quest points that you will need to get a discount for your health insurance for 2020 and to receive contributions to your Health Saving Account (HSA). Take a three point quiz, sign up for your health assessment and/or sign up for Naturally Slim are just a few things you can do to earn points - (https://kansashealthquest.cernerwellness.com).

If you are on the health plan that involves an HSA, consider rolling your money from the former HSA holder (Optum) to the new HSA provider (NueSynergy). In order to do this you need to fill out a form and send it to Optum, https://stateofkansas.wealthcareportal.com.

Another form health insurers should fill out is the HIPPA form which allows you to talk on behalf of anyone on your health insurance and will allow other adults to talk on your behalf to your insurance provider. You need to fill a form out for everyone 18 years of age and older that is on your health insurance policy. For example if I want to talk to Blue Cross Blue Shield about a bill regarding my 18 year old son I will not be able to if this form is not filled out. Nothing is more frustrating than not being able to take care of insurance matters because they can’t talk to you due to privacy laws. Here is the form for anyone who has a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) Policy - https://www.bcbsks.com/CustomerService/Forms/pdf/29-456_HIPAAauthorization.pdf. If you have any BCBS Insurance (Federal or State) this is the form that you want to have on file. Not sure if you have filled it out before, it doesn’t hurt to resubmit.
