Community Vitality Professional Development Opportunity in Wichita, June 24-26
Program Focus Teams are tasked with planning professional development opportunities for members of their PFT and the rest of the Extension system. The Community Vitality PFT will be meeting in Wichita, June 24-26, for professional development and future program planning. We have created a schedule that separates professional development from our work to plan future programs. If the agenda appeals to you, please email Cindy Evans, cevans@ksu.edu, and request a registration form for non-PFT members.
Single day registrations are available for Monday and Tuesday.
Monday, June 24, Hotel at Old Town, 830 E. 1st Street, Wichita
Single Day registration for Monday is $35 (includes lunch and KLC book)
10:30 a.m. - Ed O’Malley, President and CEO of the Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) will set the tone for the day sharing insights on why Kansans need to develop skills for civic engagement and the role Extension educators play in the process. Participants will receive a copy of the book, Your Leadership Edge.
1:00 - 2:00 p.m. - Montgomery County partners will tell of the KSRE-facilitated meeting they held before writing a proposal to Tyson to bring a plant to SE Kansas. They will share their intended outcomes and actual outcomes and include dialogue about what skills or tools would have benefited the conversation.
2:00 - 2:30 p.m. - Russell Plashka is with the Kansas Department of Agriculture Strategic Growth Program. KDA was a part of the conversation in Montgomery County regarding the poultry industry. Russell will tell us how communities can use KDA to help.

3:00 - 3:30 p.m. - Erik Pedersen, Vice-President of NetWork Kansas will discuss new initiatives of NetWork Kansas (aka Kansas Center for Entrepreneurship) and identify areas where Extension educators can play an educational role.
Tuesday, June 25, Experience in Anthony, Kansas.
Single Day registration for Tuesday is $25 (includes lunch)
This day will take us to various businesses in Anthony to learn about small businesses, community development grants and how the community has worked to address issues around workforce development, maintaining a grocery store and more.
8:00 a.m. - Meet in the parking lot of Hotel at Old Town to car pool to Anthony
9:15 Higher Ground Coffee Shop, 128 W. Main, Anthony (We will be in this location all morning with various speakers)
11:45 a.m. - Walking Tour to Kristy’s Kafe, 110 W Main for lunch, then finish walking tour.
2:00 p.m. - Travel to Attica Grocery, 202 N. Main, Attica
4:00 p.m. - Return drive to Wichita
