A Poignant Reminder of What Really Matters
We were notified late last week that one of our K-State Research and Extension Thomas County 4-H youth lost his life in a tragic 4th of July celebration accident. Joshua Berens was 15. He was in every aspect a teenager who was well liked, worked hard, and had a whole host of future opportunities.
As we move forward this fair season, let’s keep Josh and his family in our hearts and minds. Let’s remember that one of our 4-H families has lost their son. They will miss his love and presence. They will miss not getting to smile with pride as they look at his 4-H projects. They will miss seeing his face as he learns something new from his project mentors and judges. They will miss hearing about him mentoring and caring for younger 4-H members. They will miss seeing him become a confident, competent, and caring adult.
And, as we move forward this fair season, let’s also remember that those qualities and experiences are what really matters.
