Research Update
The 2019 Kansas Summer Annual Forage Hay and Silage Variety Trial research report available online. In 2019, summer annual forage variety trials were conducted near Garden City, Hays, and Scandia. All sites evaluated hay and silage entries. Companies were able to enter varieties into any possible combinations of research sites, so not all sites had all varieties. Across the sites, 95 hay varieties, 99 sorghum silage varieties, and 12 corn silage varieties were evaluated.
The 2020 Field Research Report is available online. This year's report includes topics of corn biomass, nitrogen, isotope labeling, and yield responses; cropping and tillage systems in corn, soybeans, and winter canola; use of UAVs to characterize grain sorghum senescence patterns, historical sorghum hybrids, and sorghum dryland nitrogen management and ethanol feedstocks; management practices of forage hay and silage, cover crops in dryland conditions, water use and productivity in teff, corn, and grain sorghum, and soil microbiology in no-till corn-soybean systems; SDS in soybean, late season management in soybean, and nitrogen and sulfur management in soybean; weather reports; weed management trials in soybean, wheat, kochia, palmer amaranth, and feral rye; wheat seed cleaning effects, intensive management conditions, and variety specific responses to nitrogen and foliar fungicide applications.
