Update: Search for Program Coordinator Kansas Agriculture Mediation Service (KAMS)

Submitted by Rick Peterson

The Kansas Agriculture Mediation Service (KAMS) program is a part of KSRE and provides mediation services for Kansas residents who would like assistance in resolving all types of agricultural related issues. With the retirement of key personnel from KAMS and the Farm Business Analyst Program, a search has been undertaken to hire a new Program Coordinator. The new Program Coordinator will provide leadership to KAMS and the Farm Analyst programs.

The Search Committee members include representatives from KAMS: Gary Kepka, Charlene Henton; Farm Management: Kevin Herbel; Specialist: Robin Reid; and is Chaired by Rick Peterson, Associate Director for Extension Programs. This first KAMS Program Coordinator interview was held February 22. Please look for future announcements concerning the position in the Tuesday Letter.

The Kansas Agriculture Mediation Service has been the officially certified agricultural mediation program for Kansas since 1988. KAMS is funded through a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant program and administered by K-State Research and Extension. The program provides assistance to help Kansans resolve a wide variety of issues affecting their daily lives. These could include agricultural credit issues, farm foreclosures, USDA Farm program and Farm Loan Program decisions, USDA Rural Housing loan issues, USDA Risk Management issues and USDA Natural Resources and Conservation Service decisions.

KAMS specialists provide initial information and guidance at no cost through a toll-free hotline, 1-800-321-3276. KAMS state-wide network of cooperating agencies and programs includes a pool of trained agricultural mediators, K-State Research and Extension financial consultants and Kansas Legal Services (KLS).
