A Letter Regarding the Kansas State Fair
Dear Colleagues:
This week the Kansas State Fair begins, our state’s annual event that “Celebrates all things Kansas” and showcases the best of the best of our 4-H youth and adult extension projects. Thousands of people will come from across Kansas and other states to walk the barns, look at the projects, compete, watch the competitions, enjoy fair food, take in the carnival, socialize, and, basically, learn and have fun.
This year marks a return to normalcy, or something resembling normalcy, following a highly altered 2020 Kansas State Fair due to our COVID-19 challenge. Of course, we are still not out of the Covid-19 challenge, and so we still need to watch out for both our health and the health of others.
I am not going to and cannot mandate that we, as K-State Research and Extension employees, follow certain protocols at the Kansas State Fair. I will, however, encourage you to read the current Center for Disease Control COVID-19 prevention recommendations and ask that you please consider following these best practices at the Kansas State Fair and in our daily lives until such protocols are no longer necessary. The CDC COVID-19 recommendations can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html.
It is great to be able to “Celebrate all things Kansas” and have fun again at the Kansas State Fair. Let’s make sure we do so in as safe a manner as possible. Let’s make it memorable for the right reasons. Please do what you can to make this state fair a fun and safe event.
Thanks for your consideration.
