Strategic Doing for Annual Conference Starts Now - Participate to Select Our Framing Question

Submitted by Jaime Menon

Calling All Difference Makers!

You might have perused the Annual Conference agenda and noted that there is a Strategic Doing Workshop scheduled from 1 – 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, and you might have some questions like: What is Strategic Doing? What will we be doing during the session? Why is it important? Let’s take a moment to answer those questions.

What is Strategic Doing?
Strategic Doing is a process developed by Purdue Agile Labs. Think of it as strategic planning, but not one that sits on a shelf collecting dust! Strategic Doing is an action plan that gains its energy through the social capital in the room, leveraging the assets that everyone brings to the table. There have been entities such as NASA and the City of Flint Michigan, as well as organizations around the world that have utilized it to find the easiest way to create positive impact, in the shortest amount of time.

What will we be doing during the session?
Creating an action plan, and getting the work done while you do! A Framing Question will be selected through a vote from the KSRE faculty and staff (see more information below) that your Program Focus Team will tackle, and answer four Questions: What could we do? What should we do? What will we do? What’s our 30/30? You will explore, identify opportunities, and begin to act on the most promising of those opportunities. For larger PFT groups, the members will be divided into small groups of eight for the discussions.

Why is it important?
We have been through major changes during the past 18 months, and YOU have been resilient and done amazing work. NOW is a great opportunity to reshape the work of K-State Research and Extension through your Program Focus Team efforts. You will also be learning a new facilitation process that you can use at the local level for your work, and a tool that you can share with our stakeholders, boards, and partners that are interested in an effective strategic planning and decision-making opportunity (and you will know just who to contact to bring Strategic Doing to you!).

Finally, the most important parts of this process – YOU! Not only are we excited for your participation, but we are also curious to know what you feel is the most important question to answer for the direction of your Program Focus Team in K-State Research and Extension! Please take a moment to let us know by participating in this super short (like one minute or less, unless you take a bit longer to contemplate) survey to determine the Framing Question, which will provide purpose, meaning and direction for our Strategic Doing Session: https://kstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cH06V3zh2WgADfU.

We will be publishing the results in upcoming weeks in the Tuesday Letter, so stay tuned!

Thank you for all you do! – The 2021 Annual Conference Strategic Doing Committee (Jaime Menon, Brian McCornack and Debbie Kirchhoff).
