Applications Being Accepted for 2022 North Central Leadership Development Program

Submitted by Laurie Chandler

Are you enthusiastic about K-State Research and Extension? Are you interested in developing your ability to lead in our system or provide leadership for your local unit, center, department, professional associations, clientele or communities in the future? If your vision of your future includes building your leadership skills, then the North Central NELD leadership experience may be just the opportunity you need!

The mission of the North Central Extension Leadership Development (NELD) program is to build leaders throughout Extension at all levels and provide them with the vision, courage and tools to lead in a changing world. NELD provides opportunities for current and future Extension leaders and administrators to:

• Develop a better understanding of self and enhance personal effectiveness through assessments, coaching, feedback, individual goal-setting and strategies for processing and managing information leading to results.

• Learn, apply and reflect on new effective leadership, organizational collaboration and change concepts and strategies.

• Strengthen competence in decision-making, build leadership capacity, improve effectiveness of Extension programming and promote life-long learning.

• Broaden understanding of Extension on a local, state, national and international level.

• Build a more robust national Extension network.

NELD 2022 will use a hybrid approach of delivery, giving participants a rich high tech/high touch experience:

• Virtual workshops will be used for direct instruction and will occur on the Thursday and Friday the week before the in-person sessions.

• In-person sessions will incorporate more experiential learning.

• Leadership assignments, videos and other resources will be provided online through a variety of platforms, including Zoom, Canvas, and a custom-designed NELD app. Participants will be expected to bring their smart phones and laptops to the in-person sessions.

Session dates and locations for 2022 include:

Session 1
Virtual workshop: March 3-4
Experiential learning seminar: March 7-10 in Chicago, IL

Session 2
Virtual workshop: June 2-3
Experiential learning seminar: June 6-9 in Kansas City, MO

Seminar 3

Tuition for specialists will be covered through Extension Administration budget while all travel-related expenses will be the responsibility of their departmental or regional unit. Applicants must be able to fully participate in all virtual and in-person sessions.
