Registration Open - Risk Management Skills for Kansas Women in Agriculture Series
Registration for the in-person Risk Management series has started and will run through December 31. The series will begin on January 12, with 36 host locations across the state.
Although risk management is always important to farmers, little did we know when we began planning this series several months ago how important it would be for the 2022 growing season considering the unprecedented high input prices and extreme volatility in the markets.
The Risk Management Skills for Kansas Women in Agriculture Series is a signature program. As a brief reminder, this is how the series works:
- 4-part series focused on risk management in crops
o Risk management topics: enterprise budgets, crop insurance, crop marketing, government programs
o Dates: January 12, January 19, January 26, February 2
- Optional 5th session on cattle risk management
o Risk management topics: cow/calf enterprise budgeting, cattle marketing, insurance options
o February 23
- The keynote risk management topics are broadcast live from campus
- Host locations will facilitate hands-on activities to reinforce the risk management skill taught each evening
- Host locations also coordinate the local topics and discussion including Family Communications and Stress and Resiliency
This series may sound familiar as it is modeled after a Farm Financial series held just prior to the pandemic. The series two years ago was attended by nearly 700 participants statewide. It is uncertain how many participants will attend this time, but we are hoping to reach high numbers again. We are encouraging people to sign up sooner rather than later. The first 500 to register will receive a free marketing book which will reinforce the concepts from the series. We need to secure the books and shipping as soon as possible, and those orders must be submitted in the first few days of January.

Last, but certainly not least, Robin and I want to extend our deepest appreciation to each of the agents who have agreed to host or help with the series in some way. There are over 90 agents who are helping with the series! That is amazing to me and speaks volumes about the desire to get useful information to our farm families. This program would not be successful without each of you who are stepping up to help with it.
