Community Health Corner
Community health uses science-based approaches for the greatest health benefit to the greatest number of people by addressing the social, economic, and structural drivers that impact everyone’s health. The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development practices to ensure that every person has the opportunity to "attain his or her full health potential," and no one is "disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances." The following tools and resources can be used to improve health equity and well-being working with communities to achieve the nation’s Healthy People 2030 objectives.
SHARE NOW: A new food resource directory for Kansas is shared by partners at the Kansas Children’s Service League. The Kansas Food Bank has launched a comprehensive and interactive map of all partner agencies of the Kansas Food Bank, Harvesters - The Community Food Network, and Second Harvest Community Food Bank. The new website, http://www.kansasfoodsource.org, allows you to pull up the county you are interested in and find a pantry near the families in need throughout the Sunflower State! The pantry’s information is listed here.
REGISTER NOW: The annual, in-person Kansas Community Health Worker (CHW) Symposium will be held on June 9, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., at Wichita State University, so register now! The symposium is free to all participants, and the keynote presenter is Dr. Ed Ehlinger, Past President of ASTHO (Association of State and Territorial Health Officials) and former Minnesota Commissioner of Health, who kicked-off the KSRE Annual Per-Conference last fall. The CHW Symposium sessions, panels and pre-conference are intended to increase the skills of CHWs, partners and allies that contribute to the reduction of health disparities and that improve access to health care for all.
USE NOW: Kent Reed, KSDE School Counseling Consultant, has provided this website for adults who are seeking resources following the tragic mass casualty shooting in Uvalde, TX: https://www.schoolcounselor.org/Publications-Research/Publications/Free-ASCA-Resources/After-a-School-Shooting.
